Early Childhood and Middle School Education

A comprehensive education in the liberal arts is required by both Goddard College and the Vermont Department of Education before students in the Education Department can attain licensure. It is necessary, they believe, for an individual to have a broad educational foundation upon which to base learning in their specialized field of study. Using GC's student-centered, holistic approach, students will be taught to examine problems in order to deduce the most socially-responsible solutions to classroom, community, and global issues. Throughout the program the mission of the teacher educator is to present students with problems and questions, guiding them in their reasoning and understanding. The goal of GC's Bachelor of Arts in Teacher Education degree program is to produce graduates who possess the tools, knowledge, and the qualities necessary to be effective teachers.

Early Childhood and Middle School Education Degrees

Goddard College, since being chartered in 1938 as an experimental institution, has always been committed to progressive higher learning. Accredited in 1959 by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Goddard has year after year demonstrated its dedication to educating adults as well as younger students. Recognizing that education and career are not mutually exclusive, in 1963 the school began the first low-residency undergraduate studies program.
