Criminal Justice
The Criminal Justice Department at Bemidji State University offers two degrees in the study of Criminal Justice (a Bachelor of Science (BS) and an Associate of Science (AS)). Both programs prepare students for careers in corrections, law enforcement, and other agencies (both public and private) concerned with the prevention and investigation of crime and criminal activity. The BS, however, is the appropriate line of study for a student pursuing further, advanced-level studies in criminal justice or law.

Bemidji State University
It was not until 1975 that the school formerly known as Bemidji State Teachers College was finally named Bemidja State University. Its change of names signified the campus's growing role as a multipurpose educational institution. Its external studies program, which was established in 1974, provides university study and educational services to adults unable to participate in programs on campus in the rural parts of northern Minnesota.
