Social Work
Lakehead University offers two degrees in Social Work: the Honours Bachelor’s (HBSW) degree and the Master of Social Work (MSW). The HBSW degree can be earned either over a four year period, combining the professional education with a solid base of instruction in liberal arts, or through a one year program, for students who have previously earned a Bachelor’s degree in another field and have completed related practice experience. The MSW program builds on the Bachelor’s program curriculum, delivering instruction in a highly individualized manner. The MSW encourages students to pursue specialization in their specific chosen field of social work, such as child welfare, juvenile justice, gerontology, or women’s studies.
